As the 10th Anniversary of September 11 approaches and our fall issue enters the final stages of production, it seems appropriate to reflect on the incredible growth and resilience that Lower Manhattan has shown in the past decade. We all know that the neighborhoods in Lower Manhattan have made amazing changes and now the Downtown Alliance’s new study called “The State of Lower Manhattan” has confirmed these sentiments.

DOWNTOWN Magazine was started in 2010 as a huge risk, but one well-worth taking, as it was obvious that this vibrant community needed a lifestyle magazine all its own. It was an idea that our CEO and Publisher Grace A. Capobianco nurtured for many years and could no longer resist the temptation or risk having her idea stolen. She refused to live in the shadow of 9/11 and so did the community around her.

Where there was once destruction, there is now development. The nine-to-five reputation has become an around the clock social scene. Our high-powered executives have been joined by families and celebrities committed to eco-friendly living.

And we are here to cover it all; to serve our unique and powerful community with the best in Downtown news, culture, entertainment, fashion, food and real estate. Our goal is to enhance the lives of our readers by addressing current events, trends and hidden gems in their neighborhood and in the greater Manhattan area.

We, our company and our community, are sitting on the cusp of something bigger than we even realize. While we spend the next few weeks remembering the tragedies of the past, let us not forget the bright future ahead.
